It's Friday, so let's highlight the week:
Topping the list is the fact that Ben learned to get out of his crib. It was during naptime and he has recently decided that napping is not in his repertoire. So, he jibber-jabbered and then started crying. Apparently he decided to be super brave and attempt to repel out of his crib. I heard the thud, then doorknob rattling and then pitter patter down the hallway. The mom in me did the proverbial home alone hands on the cheeks scream. So, he did it again in the morning--I found him downstairs in the cupboard formerly known as the snack cupboard (had to be moved thanks to ben out of reach) and then again at nap this afternoon--I found him in the mudroom with my van keys in hand. So stay tuned to see what happens. I am hoping we can train him to stay in the crib but he may be sporting a new bed by Monday.
Ben learned that the cement red ball in front of Target is not actually a fun and friendly bouncy ball--the hard way. He galloped towards it smiling and saying 'ball, ball!' then smacked into it with an open mouth. He didn't cry, just held his mouth and looked at me in utter confusion and disappointment. It was a little sad but also a little funny--ok a lot funny. It would've been a youtube hit had I been filming it.
This morning we went to buckeye donuts for the first time with a friend. I just had Ben and Jack with me since the girls had school. So Kristin and I ordered the decadent buckeye donut which involves copious amounts of chocolate and peanut butter. I ordered a cake donut for Ben--the least messy of course but also the most boring, thinking he wouldn't really care. Oh he cared! When we sat down he looked over at my decadence in a basket and then at Kristin's decadence in a basket and then at his lame-O donut in a basket--and just put his head down on the table in despair and disappointment. He then proceeded to refuse to eat his donut and peeked up at me with puppy dog eyes until I shared some of mine. He's smarter than I thought.
Jack somehow survived the week. Ben loves to open mouth kiss him, pull the bouncy chair to the floor and let go like a sling shot (we now clip jack into it quite securely for this reason), shove the pacifier in his mouth and occasionally sit and/or step on him. I found Benson straddling Jack and sitting on his stomach this morning. Jack thought it was hilarious so I guess his spleen remained intact because that probably wouldn't have been as funny. Ben also tried to feed Jack some of his granola bar. I know this because I found remnants of sesame seeds on Jacks lips.
Lydia and Grace have been pretty tame this week in comparison. They had a fight over a green skirt this morning which was solved by fashioning a dress for Grace out of one of my workout t-shirts. Not sure what the teachers thought at school but Grace was pretty psyched about it.
Lydia tried to teach Jack about spiderman ( she loves to sit and talk to him and he obliges nicely by smiling and cooing) but didn't know what else to say other than he wears red and black. So she switched back to telling him the story of Cinderella . . . again.
